The custom letterpress business cards for TwoFour Creative Coalition’s Rich were really our ideal letterpress order. Be it a seller or buyer, you have that ideal transaction in mind: if you’re a buyer, you want the item to fit your needs and preferences, the seller to be nice, the shop to look appealing and so on; if you’re a seller, you want the client to be reasonable, to be satisfied with your items, to come back for a second time etc. So there are these general ideas each buyer and each seller has depending on various characteristics. Well for us, the letterpress business cards for TwoFour Creative Coalition were precisely that: ideal transaction. Conversation went smoothly, design was perfect, letterpress printing was a blast. The business cards and letterpress tags we did for Printsmith and the project we’ve just wrapped up were like this as well, so that makes me think that there’s a bright future ahead! Hehe!

The custom letterpress tags and business cards we made for Printsmith couldn’t have been a more enjoyable project for us! When i was writing about the business cards we made for BURNISH + BONE, i mentioned the fact that it was really an emotional journey for me. Well this time around, everything went along smoothly from the beginning to the end!

First of all, i really like the design of Printsmith’s logo and i instantly new it’d look wonderful letterpress printed! The card stock choice was also good. I usually like working with the sparkling bright white card stock, but this time Printsmith’s Dora chose the porcelain-white one and it was definitely the best choice.

[Behind the scenes] Custom letterpress business cards for Dutch Origin Design by FEM

After publishing the interview with Femke, the artist behind Dutch Origin Design by FEM, it’s time i talked a little about the whole creation process of her custom letterpress business cards.

As mentioned in the interview, these business cards were the very first that Charlotte (our Heidelberg Tiegel letterpress printing machine) and us ever made. We officially opened Funky Print Studio and this website on the 1st of March, but we actually got our printing machine at some point at the end of last year. That was when Femke contacted us initially only looking for personalized hang tags and boxes. Well one thing led to another and the initial order was upgraded with some simple and elegant double sided printed letterpress business cards.

It was a bit of a challenge since it was our very first time printing on our Heidelberg, but the letterpress business cards turned out beautiful!

[Behind the scenes] Custom letterpress business cards for BURNISH + BONE

The custom letterpress business cards we made for Ali of BURNISH + BONE Osteological Taphonomy were a bit of a challenge for us. Well, for me alone actually, as my husband (and crafter at the same time) was just as confident as ever. For me, though, it was quite an emotional journey…

“Emotional journey? Are we still talking about the letterpress business cards or…?” Yes, i hear ya and yes, we’re still talking about the business cards. It was emotional to the point of me bursting into tears at some point! Oh, those dreaded dog bones enjoyed toying with my obsessive compulsive perfectionism! However, the final result exceeded my expectations and it turned out great!

Since we create our own polymer plates when letterpress printing, the first step is having the film made and then, based on them, the plates themselves. In order to get from the images above to the following ones, we’ve had a lot of work to go through, but ultimately the end result was well worth it.

I was really anxious to find out Ali’s opinion on her letterpress business cards, so i must admit i checked that tracking number practically every day. When they finally did arrive and i read Ali’s mail, i was really the happiest i had been since leaving the package at the post office! And i’m saying this just to not sound too corny even though i could easily go there. Ali was kind enough to send me a photo and i can’t thank her enough for this!

Seeing the photos of Ali’s business cards, you might have wondered what it is she does. It is indeed a not so common activity which is why it is that much more interesting. BURNISH + BONE is all about cleaning and preserving animal bones, skulls, claws, tusks, teeth and horns for hunters, pet owners, collectors and enthusiasts.
